A selection is a continuous section of packets. The selection is defined/modified by use of the Mark command, and can be cleared with the Clear command.
Some commands requires a selection to operate on, while some commands either operate on the current selection if present and else operate on the entire track.
The current selection is marked in the Instructions window with the 
and 
symbols (indicating the first and last packets of the selection, respectively).
